Where the LungEIT Kit fits in
From respiratory function research and diagnostic-tool development to clinical and pulmonary-rehabilitation studies — the LungEIT Kit gives research teams a clean way into lung imaging on Sciospec EIT.
Respiratory function research
Monitor regional ventilation, EELV trends and breathing-pattern changes in pre-clinical and clinical research studies.
Diagnostic-tool development
Develop and validate new diagnostic indicators and algorithms with full raw-data access and configurable injection patterns.
Clinical research studies
Run controlled clinical research with medical-grade safety features and a workflow simple enough for non-engineer study staff.
Pulmonary rehabilitation research
Track lung-recruitment changes over rehabilitation programmes, ICU stays or weaning workflows.
Configure your LungEIT Kit
Choose the belt sizes and channel count for your kit. All medical-grade safety features, ECG module and imaging software are included in every LungEIT Kit.
Currently available with 16 measurement channels. Higher channel-count systems will follow.

From a research kit to your OEM lung-imaging product
The LungEIT Kit shares its core with the rest of the Sciospec EIT range — so the same architecture covers initial research studies and OEM lung-imaging product integrations.
When you move from a research bundle to a product, we help migrate the EIT core into OEM hardware with tailored firmware, connectors and software branding — with a clear path through medical certification requirements.
- 01
Run your research study
Use the LungEIT Kit as a research bundle — flexible injection patterns, raw data access and a dedicated lung imaging app.
- 02
Lock in your clinical workflow
Once your protocol stabilises, freeze the configuration: channel count, belt type, ECG sync, isolated I/O and software setup.
- 03
Migrate to an OEM lung-imaging product
When you're ready to commercialise, we migrate the same EIT core into a dedicated OEM platform — tailored electronics, enclosure and software branding.
Published reference
Modular EIT systems with Sciospec — from research bundle to OEM lung imaging
The same core powering research kits and OEM lung-imaging systems
The Sciospec EIT architecture used in the LungEIT Kit is cited across published work on modular EIT systems, with documented paths from research bundles to OEM product integrations.
Challenge
Give research teams a clean entry into lung imaging without locking them out of low-level configuration and raw data.
SCIOSPEC ROLE
A bundle of EIT hardware, electrode belts, cabling and a lung imaging app — based on the same core used in our higher-channel and OEM systems.
RESULT
Researchers can start respiratory studies quickly while keeping a clear migration path to OEM products with medical certification.
USER VOICE
- "The LungEIT Kit lets a research team start a lung-imaging study without becoming EIT-system integrators first — and still leaves all the knobs available when we need to look inside the data."

Additional published work covers high-throughput cardiac safety screening, Organ-on-Chip TEER monitoring and modular EIT architectures — all sharing the Sciospec EIT measurement core.
Individual FAQ
Short technical answers to the questions we hear most often about the LungEIT Kit.
Is the LungEIT Kit a certified medical device?
No. The LungEIT Kit is a research instrument with IEC 60601-1 compliant safety features, intended for pre-clinical and clinical research use. It is not a certified medical device. We support migration paths to OEM medical products through partner certification workflows.
What's included in the bundle?
A medical-research EIT system, complete cabling, electrode belts and the integrated lung imaging app in the Sciospec software suite — plus open interfaces, EIDORS compatibility and raw data access.
What channel counts are available?
16, 32, 64, 128 or 256 channels, chosen at order time based on your spatial-resolution needs and budget.
Can we synchronise EIT with ECG?
Yes. The optional ECG module adds one channel of ECG fully synchronised to EIT acquisition — useful for cardiac-gated reconstructions and cardiopulmonary studies.
Can we use our own reconstruction algorithms?
Yes. The system provides full raw data access and EIDORS compatibility, so you can run your own reconstruction and inverse-problem code in MATLAB or other tools.
Is there a path to commercialising a product?
Yes. The kit shares its EIT core with our OEM EIT systems, so when you’re ready to move from research to product we can migrate the same architecture into a dedicated OEM lung-imaging platform.
How would you like to continue?
Choose the next step that fits where you are — from first conversation to running full lung-imaging research studies.
Tell us about your lung study
Share your study design, subject population and constraints — we’ll help scope the right LungEIT Kit setup.
Configure your LungEIT Kit
Pick channel count, electrode belt and add-ons — ECG, isolated I/O, battery, training.
Need a general medical-research EIT?
If lung imaging isn’t your focus, the Medical Research ISX-3 may be a better fit for broader bioimpedance studies.
