EIT16 — ELECTRICAL IMPEDANCE TOMOGRAPHY

Compact. Easy. Fast. 16-channel EIT, made standard.

Sciospec’s standard EIT system — compact yet powerful, with 16 channels. The EIT16 has become one of the most popular EIT instruments for research and industry thanks to its outstanding performance and broad customisation options.

SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE

The standard EIT system — 16 channels, fully synchronized

The EIT16 packages a precision impedance front-end, a 16-channel reed-relay switch matrix and Sciospec’s SineFit extraction into a compact instrument designed for daily use in research labs, teaching environments and industrial pilots.

16 dual-role electrodes

ANY-TO-ANY INJECTION

Truly simultaneous sampling on all 16 channels

16 dual-role electrode connections combine voltage measurement and current injection. Any combination of 2 out of 16 channels can serve as positive / negative injection — driven by a fast-switching, ultra-low-leakage reed-relay matrix.

Pseudo-differential source

100 nA – 10 mA PEAK

Wide-range excitation with tightly synchronized DAQ

Pseudo-differential current source delivers excitation signals up to 10 mA, with a tightly synchronized data acquisition path so every channel samples in lock-step — no software-side stitching, no per-channel skew.

SineFit + imaging

READY-TO-GO ALGORITHMS

Fast, precise signal extraction with built-in imaging

The Sciospec SineFit algorithm extracts amplitude and phase quickly and accurately, while the EIT software ships with ready-to-go imaging algorithms — so you can move from raw data to reconstructions out of the box.

Where the EIT16 fits in

From academic EIT research and teaching to chip-based biosensing and industrial pilots — the EIT16 is the standard 16-channel platform researchers reach for first.

Research & academia

The most widely used Sciospec EIT instrument in research groups — well documented, easy to teach, and a natural fit for EIT method development.

Chip-based biosensing

Use EIT slide chip adapters and carrier boards to combine the EIT16 with off-the-shelf or custom chip sensors — opening up new biosensing workflows.

Phantom & method validation

Standard 32-electrode and 16×2 phantom tanks make method validation, electrode pattern comparison and reconstruction benchmarking straightforward.

Industrial pilots & OEM

Compact form factor and OEM-ready architecture make the EIT16 a strong starting point for industrial pilots before scaling to higher channel counts.

OEM INTEGRATION

From a standard EIT16 to your OEM EIT platform

The EIT16 shares its architecture with the EIT32 / 64 / 128+ scalable platform and the EIT cores used in Sciospec OEM systems — so the same workflow scales from a 16-channel research bench to a multi-hundred-channel industrial system.

When you move from a research instrument to a product, we help migrate the EIT core into OEM hardware with tailored firmware, connectors and software branding.

Validate on a standard EIT16

Prove out your EIT workflow on a standard 16-channel system with the right phantom, connector and software setup.

Scale to more channels

When you outgrow 16 channels, move to the EIT32 / 64 / 128+ platform with the same architecture and software stack.

Embedded OEM EIT platform

For product integration, migrate the EIT core into a dedicated OEM platform with tailored electronics, enclosure and software branding.

PROOF IN PRACTICE

The standard EIT system, validated by published research

The EIT16 and its bigger siblings are cited across published work on cardiac safety screening, Organ-on-Chip TEER monitoring and modular EIT system architectures — all relying on Sciospec’s synchronized multi-channel impedance core.

Challenge

Industrial-scale, non-invasive monitoring of cell-culture barrier integrity with rapid, repeatable readouts.

SCIOSPEC ROLE

Sciospec EIT / impedance cores — the same architecture used in the EIT16 — provide the multi-channel front-end and synchronized DAQ.

RESULT

Readout times under 30 seconds with industrial partners including Merck and Roche.

Individual FAQ

Short technical answers to the questions we hear most often about the EIT16.

What's the difference between the EIT16 and the EIT32 / 64 / 128+?

The EIT16 is the standard 16-channel system, ideal for research, teaching and industrial pilots. The EIT32 / 64 / 128+ is the scalable platform with the same architecture, available up to 256+ channels with WiFi and ECG add-ons.

100 Hz to 1 MHz with frequency sweeps up to 128 frequencies, and a pseudo-differential current source delivering 100 nA to 10 mA peak.

Up to 100 frames per second, depending on the chosen frequency, injection pattern and electrode count.

Yes. The EIT software ships with ready-to-go imaging algorithms and an EIDORS-compatible export workflow for MATLAB-based reconstruction.

Yes, with the optional medical grade modifications (isolated PSU, enclosure, USB and AC coupling). Note: the EIT16 is not a certified medical product.

Yes. Like every Sciospec instrument, the EIT16 is fully customisable and OEM-ready — tailored electronics, enclosure and white-labelled software all available.
