ISX-3 IMPEDANCE ANALYZER

Class-leading impedance analyzer.

The ISX-3 is a compact, single-channel impedance analyzer used in research labs across Europe and the world. It combines a 100 mHz – 10 MHz IF frontend (extendable to 40 MHz or 100 MHz), 2-/3-/4-electrode measurements and the ExtensionPort for application-specific front-ends and OEM integration.

SYSTEM ARCHITECTURE

A compact impedance analyzer with an open path to your setup

The ISX-3 combines a high-performance IF frontend with the ExtensionPort and the Sciospec software suite — a foundation that supports research workflows today and customer-specific OEM front-ends tomorrow.

IF frontend

mΩ … TΩ COVERAGE

Lab-grade impedance over an extreme dynamic range

The ISX-3 IF frontend covers 100 mHz to 10 MHz out of the box and can be extended to 40 MHz or 100 MHz. It supports 2-, 3- and 4-electrode setups with mΩ to TΩ measurement range and up to ± 1 V DC bias.

ExtensionPort

USER-ACCESSIBLE INTERFACE

A direct path for application-specific front-ends

The ExtensionPort exposes 2/3/4-electrode signals, supply rails and digital IOs (optionally I²C or UART). It simplifies custom development built on or around the ISX-3 — from chip carriers to OEM front-ends.

Sciospec software

SUITE + COM API

Control and automate from any environment

The included Sciospec software suite handles measurement setup, data export and analysis. A COM interface integrates the ISX-3 with Java, C, Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB and similar environments for automated workflows.

APPLICATIONS

Where the ISX-3 fits in

From bioimpedance and biosensor R&D to materials and process monitoring, the ISX-3 has become a standard tool wherever reliable, broadband impedance spectroscopy is needed.

Bioimpedance & cell-based assays

Track cell barrier formation, drug response and cytotoxicity with reproducible EIS — from single-electrode experiments to chip-based assays via the ExtensionPort.

Biosensors & EIS-on-chip

Characterize electrodes, surfaces and binding events. The ISX-3's 2-/3-/4-electrode flexibility and wide impedance range make it a default tool for biosensor development.

Materials & electrochemistry

Run impedance spectroscopy on coatings, electrolytes, batteries and corrosion systems with mΩ to TΩ coverage and lab-grade precision.

Process, food & plant tissue

Use EIS to monitor liquids, tissue conductivity and process states — including published work on pulsed electric field treatment of plant tissue.

OEM INTEGRATION

From a benchtop ISX-3 to your integrated product

The ISX-3 isn’t only a lab instrument — it’s a measurement core that has been integrated into many customer products. The ExtensionPort exposes the relevant signals and digital interfaces so application-specific front-ends can be built on or around the ISX-3 without re-inventing the EIS engine.

When you’re ready to move from a benchtop unit to a product, we help migrate the ISX-3 architecture into dedicated OEM electronics — with tailored firmware, connectors and certifications for your target environment.

Benchtop validation

Validate your method on a standard ISX-3 with cables, fixtures and the Sciospec software suite.

Application-specific front-end

Attach an ExtensionPort front-end tailored to your sensor, chip or fixture.

Embedded OEM platform

Migrate the ISX-3 measurement core into a dedicated OEM module with custom electronics and firmware.

PROOF IN PRACTICE

ISX-3 in real research workflows

Researchers use the ISX-3 across plant biology, biosensing and clinical research. One published example tracks conductivity changes in plant tissue exposed to pulsed electric fields (PEFs) — using the ISX-3 as the primary EIS instrument.

Challenge

Quantify how PEF parameters change tissue conductivity over time, with reproducible broadband impedance data.

SCIOSPEC ROLE

The ISX-3 provides the EIS measurement core, 2-/3-/4-electrode flexibility and PC-controlled sweeps used throughout the study.

RESULT

A publishable workflow linking PEF treatment parameters to tissue conductivity behaviour.

Additional published work covers prostate cancer gene detection, DNA characterization and toxin-induced cell damage — all using the ISX-3 as the EIS platform.

Individual FAQ

Short technical answers to the questions we hear most often about the ISX-3.

What frequency range does the ISX-3 cover?

The standard IF frontend covers 100 mHz to 10 MHz. Extended hardware options reach 40 MHz or 100 MHz for higher-frequency biosensor and materials work.

2-, 3- and 4-electrode setups are user-selectable. Combined with the mΩ … TΩ impedance range, the ISX-3 fits everything from low-impedance electrochemistry to high-impedance biosensors.

Through the ExtensionPort. It exposes the 2/3/4-electrode signals, supply rails and digital IOs (optionally I²C or UART) — so you can build application-specific front-ends without modifying the ISX-3 itself.

Yes. The COM interface integrates the ISX-3 with Java, C, Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB and similar environments. The Sciospec software suite is included for standalone use.

Sequential multichannel measurements are possible via internal multiplexer options. For true parallel channels with full electrochemistry support, the CSX-64 multichannel potentiostat is the right platform.
