Electrical Impedance Tomography

EIT systems for research and clinical work

EIT instruments with 16, 32, 64, 128 or 256 channels — for tank experiments, lung and brain imaging research, geophysics and novel EIT-on-chip applications. Apart from standard instruments we also offer fully customized EIT products and application-specific OEM solutions.

For: Sciospec builds flexible EIT systems, scalable research platforms and OEM-ready measurement architectures for teams that need to image, monitor or integrate impedance-based information beyond standard lab setups.

Find your starting point

Which EIT starting point fits your project?

Different EIT applications require different measurement architectures. Some projects need an easy entry point for first experiments, while others require higher channel counts, multifrequency operation, synchronized acquisition or a path toward custom integration and OEM development.

All the capabilities your EIT application needs

Sciospec EIT systems (EIT16 / 32 / 64 / 128+) are designed specifically for tomographic measurements. True parallel acquisition and tightly synchronized injection switching allow for fast frame rates even at the highest channel counts.

Available options

Every EIT instrument can be tailored to your setup — connectors, isolation, wireless, temperature control and more.

Accessories for EIT

Choose from a range of standard accessories — or have us build something specific to your geometry.

Lung imaging — the LungEIT Kit

Looking to dive into lung imaging? The LungEIT Kit is an all-in-one solution providing everything you need to start exploring thoracic EIT — instrument, chest belt, electrodes and reconstruction software in one package. Whether for preliminary research or new diagnostic tools, the kit offers turnkey functionality.

Not sure which fits? Talk to an engineer — we’ll map your assay to the right hardware in one call.

One tomographic platform. Many imaging regimes.

The Sciospec EIT line shares a single ultra-low-noise front-end and SineFit signal extraction across every channel count — from a compact 16-channel bench system to medical-grade 256-channel platforms. The bullets on the right summarise what that platform brings to your tomographic setup.

How EIT turns injection patterns into an image

EIT combines data from many electrode injection paths into a single frame, then reconstructs an image of the impedance or conductivity distribution — in a plane or a volume.

EIT basics — how it works

EIT can be thought of as a highly specialised case of impedance spectroscopy. Data from many electrode configurations (injection paths) are combined into one frame and used to reconstruct an image of the impedance or conductivity distribution in a plane or volume.

Most setups use 16 or 32 electrodes; advanced topologies with multiple analysis planes need more. Since EIT has very specific requirements on injection patterns, not all multichannel impedance analyzers can work in all EIT configurations — which is why there is a dedicated class of instruments optimized for tomographic acquisition.

EIT as OEM — your platform, our measurement core

From portable devices for mobile health to massive multichannel platforms for screening applications — we deliver the impedance technology turn-key ready. Need a graphical UI? Going for a medical device? No problem.

Frequently asked questions

Common questions on channel counts, frame rates, medical-grade options and OEM integration.

What channel counts are available?

Standard configurations span 16, 32, 64, 128 and 256 channels. Larger reference designs exist and custom channel counts are available on request.

Up to 100 frames per second depending on channel count, injection pattern and frequency range. Truly simultaneous sampling preserves temporal fidelity for dynamic processes such as ventilation or perfusion imaging.

Yes. Medical-grade modifications — isolated power supply, AC-coupled front-end, isolated USB and IO ports — bring the instruments into compliance with IEC 60601-1 leakage current and patient isolation requirements.

Absolutely. All systems are fully compatible with EIDORS, and raw data can be exported for use in MATLAB, Python or any custom reconstruction pipeline. Our software also ships with ready-to-go time- and frequency-difference algorithms.

Yes — EIT, like everything on our platform, is available as OEM. Our modular platform allows for cost-efficient customisation and easy integration into customer products, including medical devices, portable mobile-health units and massive multichannel screening platforms.
