We are not a typical lab instrument manufacturer. With Sciospec it’s all about the technology platform underneath the instruments — everything in our portfolio can be customised, scaled, migrated from lab to field, and combined freely with everything else on the platform.

What's the perfect fit for your multichannel application?

There are many scenarios that demand more than one channel of a potentio-/galvanostat. The right architecture depends on whether you need synchronization, throughput, isolation or all three.

Multiplexing — simple, affordable, with caveats

The simplest way to scale a single-channel instrument is to add a multiplexer — a set of switches connecting the instrument to several targets. Semiconductor switches are cheap, low-power and small, but have leakage currents in the pA–nA range and input capacitance of tens of pF. Reed relays offer TΩ off-isolation, sub-pF capacitance and zero leakage — at the cost of size, power and price. No matter the switch technology, feasibility must be evaluated per application. In some cases parasitics don’t matter; in others they decrease quality or even break the sensors.

Multi-potentiostats (multipots)

Multipots are several potentio-/galvanostat front-ends in one chassis. Channels run truly in parallel with shared housekeeping hardware — full parallelization without the drawbacks of stacking individual instruments.

Poly-potentiostats

A polypot is a single potentiostat with one counter and one reference port, but several working electrodes. Regulation is performed against one distinguished working electrode and the others are measured against the same reference. Current measurement can be parallel (full kinetic synchrony) or sequential (smaller, cheaper, lower power) — in both cases the applied stimulus (e.g. a CV) is fully synchronous across all channels.
